Deadline.com reports that actor Kodi Smit-McPhee, who voiced the title character in Paranorman and is currently filming Jake Paltrow's The Young Ones, has been cast in one of the lead roles of Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. No word yet on whether or not he'll be playing an ape or one of the scientists looking for cure to the virus that has wiped out much of humanity. Reportedly the new film will take place 15 years after the events of its predecessor, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Dawn marks the runion of McPhee with Reeves, the duo having previously worked together on Let Me In.

Seems a little young to play a scientist. Jason Clarke and McPhee are both Aussies. Maybe they play father and son? I can see a resemblance.

There's just no information on who he's playing. You may be right about the possible father-son connection. Presumably the primary focus of the story will be on the apes. Certainly what the majority of people prefer anyway.
